Holes

The gym I go to has had a huge refurbishment recently, one of which being the showers where they are all cubicals now like the women’s changing room, rather than before where there was a few cubicals and the normal communal part (I always got the impression that the only people who used the cubicals were people who were embarrassed about their knobs?).

Anyway, whilst showering today I noticed something that can only be desribed as a glory hole in the divider between the next cubical. It was at that height where it couldn’t have been a hook and the door hinges were on the opposite wall so it wasn’t a door stop either. Hmmm, what kind of shit is going on in that gym?

I started the daily gym routine again this week and although the first day did leave me knackered, the second day I was at my old routine fine so good to see my body hasn’t just packed up after having an extended break. I suspect that to all change when I hit 30 though. Need to get there a bit earlier tomorrow and extend the workout to fit some more in, as I think I’ve just got too used to my current routine and need to step it up a notch or two. Just goes to show what even a slight improvement in fitness/energy levels can do.

This weekend is set to be pretty quiet, which is welcome actually as we’ve been away what seems like every other weekend for the last couple of months so be nice to actually be home. Allows me some time to do some more work to my bike, which I’m sure will result in a test ride somewhere :)

Hopefully the good weather will hold out as well. I find it frustrating when I nip home at lunch and see all the doley bastards sitting outside the pub at the end of my road drinking their “jobseekers” allowance away. I’d hate to think I spend all the hours of bright sunshine inside an office working to be taxed for them :P

I’m back in a car, so I’m officially a “cager” again.

For the last few weeks we’ve just had the Focus as we sold the Honda Civic off, so I’ve been using my bike to get to work and back on. This was great for dodging the traffic jams, however a bit of a pain as it’s not really feasible to go to the gym on the way to work (I would need to take a change of work clothes, as well as my laptop and gym kit - whereas in a car I just drive in my gym kit and leave the lappy in the boot) and also it’s allot nicer in a car when there’s the typical British summer weather of dull skies and rain.

I always hear the “oh yeah, fair weather biker!” comments, but I freely admit to that. When I was younger I was out in all weather mainly as I never had a choice as the bike was all I had - however I really don’t see the point going out in the rain when you have a nice warm car instead. What’s it supposed to prove? That I can get wet? My bike is now a toy, not a commuting vehicle. I really don’t see the enjoyment tiding in the rain anyway as there’s going to be diesel and other crap washed in the roads, traction is going to be crap, your tyres will stay cold and the attention span and awareness that is already dangerously low in many ‘cagers’ is even worse in the rain where they can’t see properly from their windows steaming or wipers going manically or they’re nodding off from having their car heaters on too warm.

Saying that though, I won’t let the British weather spoil an lready planned event, such as the ride-out this weekend.

We picked up another Ford on Friday though (a Fiesta) to replace the old Civic, so now we can both tootle about in a car and my bike can stay for when I want to ride it rather than when I have to. As the bike is 20 years old, it’s dirt cheap to insure and run so not really any extra financial burden having a “third vehicle”

I still need to do more work on the bike, but due to the expense I’m postponing the replacement parts. I do need to finish the bodywork off though, but I have everything I need to do that and have already started. Just need to finish off the fibreglass repairs/re-enforcements and then finish filling the tank and sanding it all down (thanks to my black & decker mouse!). After that I’ll prime it all and somewhere I have a can of satin black spray paint to get it a half decent colour. It won’t be perfect, but good enough - and if I was really a perfectionist then there’s allot more I’d be doing.

As long as it rides well and doesn’t look too bad, then I’ll be happy.

Sunday Ride-out

Sunday was the anniversary of the nottinghambikers.co.uk forum, so to celebrate a rideout was planned.

The weather was utter, utter shit on Sunday so the original plan for Whitby was scrapped to be replaced with a blast to Matlock, then to Clay Cross and then over to Junction 27. There were seven of us in total, as some of the wusses and the girlies dropped out due to the heavy rain.

Wet roads = cold tyres = no scratching, but still good having a blast and meeting up in person.
Only one “erk!” moment when a police car with lights flashing came up behind me, but then overtook and drove off :)

Also nice to go to Powersports at Clay Cross and drool over the new ZX10r’s, and try not to look at the intrest free finance and £99 deposit to ride off on one.
